WEEK 6: SUPERVISOR SESSION

Preparation

·    PDF for Review A

The PDF includes the statement, introduction (which is the statement but with images) and the (so far) final images. I'm not 100% sure if my approach is good but I thought I'll select 5 rather different images, as I'm interested in getting feedback on those. These are still the better photos but if it was the final review I'd go with less images that work better together.

·    Process Journal

·    Photo Test #3

I think this one went a lot better, also because I focused more on just one idea and tried different variations of that. I still don't think I'm there yet, but I do think I learned one or two things since the last test: I do prefer a closer, yet simpler picture. When too much is going on and the composition becomes too complex, I think it loses its power. That is why I still like the photos from my first test as they were simpler.

Feedback

Still life territory:

·    what do flowers symbolize (political, social, religious)?

·    Robert Mapplethorpe: rather a metaphor than flowers as such (death, rebirth)

·    renaissance still life

Play around with the format and see what happens:

·    portrait (debalance, disrupts composition, less stoic)

_LIL1465_portrait

·    panorama (16:9 is a rather narrative mode, reveals more)

_LIL1465_panorama

·    the way it was captured (almost 1:3 composition, shows more of the projection on the table)
