WEEK 12: SUPERVISOR SESSION 2 (W/ SHANE)

Different drafts. I have a whole wall (1097 cm in length | 360 cm in height).
The horizontal line is at eye height of 160 cm.

Yes, No. 1 works well.

Thoughts and questions I originally had for the test installation:

  • I'm not sure if I should include the photographs on the right. They are too loud and attract all the attention. They set a different mood and totally distract from the sensitivity of the other images. > I changed the order and put the loud ones at the start.
  • How is the size of the borders?
  • How is the size in general?
  • Pinning only at the top? I tried pinning on the bottom as well and it made a big bulge (?).

Good size.

Alternatively, I've tried out Styly:

Especially the three “monoliths” work really well. Looks cool. But a real installation is better.

I made more images at the lake. The water wasn't as clear as the time before. I won't be able to re-shoot.

To give the original images more depth, I could paint in some of the others. Use blending mode (screen or lighten): anything dark will go away.

Start with the idea and then support it. With the work that I've made or contextualize it (work or ideas of others).

Rationale:

Where is the work located in the world of creative practice? How do I determine the significance of it in relationship with that? The relevance and need to be seen or discourse around a certain subject.

The work is interesting. Nothing more than that. Shane: You have to take the next step in your mind. Cultural and individual identity is one of the defining topics of our time. In the top 5 of our time (anthropocene, sustainability, global mobility, wealth inequality, de-colonizing). A sense of self, culture, belonging and identity. So, you have to identify what you have discovered from making the work. What's your conceptual/cultural/philosophical/practical solution/discovery/conclusion that you have drawn from making this work. And the drawings and conclusions can be simple. What have you discovered from doing this project that I can share with other people that will contribute to that discourse of (cultural) self-awareness? Weather it's still entrenched in fashion systems or if it's independent of that. It can be simple. How do you make people feel more confident and comfortable?

What are your findings/conclusions/discoveries?

Ages ago I sent sample files to have printed on fabric. Finally, they came back. I like the material but the colors are totally off. I don't think it's realistic to have them printed in the right colors on time.
