When I showed my project to a friend, her reaction was that it reminds her of the movie Melancholia by Lars von Trier. I thought that was interesting and therefore rewatched it. I have to admit, it is a huge compliment that my pictures reminded her of this movie, as it is visually stunning. The long introductory sequence, that feels especially surreal, but also throughout the movie are images that seem dreamlike. In my photographs I try to find “real” visual effects (especially mirror reflections) that can cause a surreal notion. Lars von Trier used digital visual effects and therefore his movie has a sci-fi touch to it.
